We were recently down in South Carolina to shoot some videos with our favorite producer, Quick Wit Media. We were focusing on interviews with workers in the solar industry and solar homeowners for a social media campaign.
Our latest documentary, the Ruination of Lovell Coleman, tells the story of a 93-year old fiddle player in Charlottesville, VA. We were honored to premiere it at the 30th Virginia Film Festival, where it received the Audience Award for the best short documentary film.
After premiering at the Camden International Film Festival, we're happy to announce that our feature documentary, Return to Cuba: In the Footsteps of Walker Evans, was picked up by Grasshopper Film for distribution. We are honored to be amongst many great films and looking forward to more people seeing the film!
We were hired by Quick Wit Media to shoot and assist with editing a video series about solar power in the South. The series is hosted on a dedicated website called Stories of Solar, an initiative of the Southern Environmental Law Center. From Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia, we profiled dozens of individuals involved in the solar industry--including entrepreneurs, installers, farmers, environmental activists, and clergy!

Surface Below Media just wrapped up production on a music video for David Wax Museum's song, "Guesthouse", from their new album, "Guesthouse", coming out on October, 15th. You can stream the entire album right now on the NYTimes. It was a fantastic and jammed-pack shoot--literally running around Charlottesville for three days in a row! We had a great time working with David and Suz; They are hard-working professionals when it comes to making videos. We can't wait to see them doing what they do best at their show in Cville on November 22nd at The Southern. Now it's time for post-production. We hope the video will be available in early November!
I'm pleased to announce Surface Below Media's first feature documentary, "Return to Cuba: In the Footsteps of Walker Evans". There will be a work-in-progress screening at the Virginia Film Festival in Charlottesville, VA on November 8th. Tickets are available HERE.
I've entered the film into 20+ other festivals around the world and I'm excited to see where it takes Evans and the rest of the photographers!
The film will not be available to the public until the summer of 2016. Please email with special preview requests.

We're in post production for the one-hour feature documentary, "Return to Cuba, In the Footsteps of Walker Evans". We hope to wrap in the next three weeks, just in time for some film festival entries. Stay tuned for the trailer!
After a few months of hard work, we are very excited to have finished our first music video for The Winn Brothers Band. When we first heard the song, we new it was good and would be fun to bring to life. Many thanks to Gordon who trusted us with the vision for the video. Check out the video on our PROJECTS page and buy the song on iTunes, HERE.
Surface Below Media produced and shot a music video for the song 'Club Girl' by The Winn Brothers Band. We had a fantastic time with the cast and crew! We're so excited to finish the video, but it will be in post until the end of November. Look for your VIP release/dance party in your email!
In November, Surface Below Media will be documenting a week-long trip to Cuba with eight world-renowned photographers who are retracing the steps of the documentary photographer Walker Evans. Ross will be filming throughout the course of the week as the photographers follow in the footsteps of Evans and make their own images.
